Galveston Daily News "Realtor Spotlight" April 2011

What opportunities do you see in the market?  If you are in your 30’s starting a family and an individual who enjoys being outside and active, whether you run, fish, surf, or bike, now is the time to buy in Galveston.  Recent market trends have made homes that are walking distance to the beach and commuting distance to Houston more affordable for middle-income families to live.  This is your chance to buy a lifestyle.

What are the top selling points for Galveston?  Galveston Island sells itself.  My job is simple, sharing with buyers how great this Island is and describing what it has to offer.  Galveston is a way of life.  It is a walkable community, with good schools getting better each year.  It is 45 minutes away from the 4th largest city in the country.  It is safe, clean, and unique.  This Island offers a quality of life that does not exist anywhere else in this state for the price.

What is your favorite part of your job?  I love real estate and enjoy telling people about Galveston.  I love the Island’s history; its neighborhoods and historic districts; as well as the construction and architecture of its properties.  The diversity of Galveston’s housing stock is truly amazing.  Whether its residential, commercial, historic or waterfront, Galveston Island has it and I have sold it.

What do you do in your spare time? I am very active in the Galveston community.  Currently, I am a member of the Galveston Park Board of Trustees.  The board oversees Island parks, beaches, and tourism.  I am also very active outdoors, spending an hour each day running along the beach.  When I am not running, I work on my house or in the garden.  I have sixteen fruit trees, five chickens, and two cats.

What does your dwelling say about you?  In 2004, I bought a house that sits in the center of the East End Historic District (originally built in 1856).  For various reasons, I chose to rehabilitate the home myself.  Raising the structure six feet, I then constructed an addition, removing and replacing both gables of the roof.  Having no prior construction experience, it has been one of the great adventures of my life.  My goal is to have the house completed by my wedding on May 7th, 2011.  On that note, I have to get back to work.  To all of the 30-somethings out there, grab your surfboard and check out Galveston.  It’s a way of life!
